As I sat in the Newark airport waiting in a crowded wine bar for my flight to Glascow a beautiful young woman came in looking for a seat. I offered her a seat across from me. We quickly started to talk( as us woman generally do) and over a glass of wine we found we had such common ground. She was a swimmer and my children swam competitively. She loved to run and I enjoyed to run. Arriving in Scotland my husband told me about the plane crash. Tears formed in my eyes as I quickly realized this sweet girl,Lorin, was a passenger on the flight. It was hard to enjoy my visit with my husband as I could not even imagine what her family was going threw. I am a mom of four and just could not imagine losing one of my own.I wanted so much to do something for this family and take away some grief. After a conversation with the family I just finished my first 1/2 marathon in Lorin's honor and it was the most amazing run I have ever had. She was an Angel in my wings and I hope with all my steps taken that day it will bring strength to this wonderful family to get threw the days ahead.
Thank you Maurer family for fighting for aviation safety. I will always have your family in my prayers. God Bless you all!

Today, I randomly came across an article on the internet about Lorin's death. I am so surprised to realize that I not only knew Lorin, but she died at such a young age and in such a tragic way. About 5 or 6 years ago, I went to a restaurant and sat down at the bar. I was waiting to meet a blind date and I happen to sit down next to Lorin. Within a few minutes, Lorin saw that I was alone and introduced herself to me. After a few minutes of talking, I learned that she had just moved to the Princeton area for a job at the University. To make a long story short, we spent a couple of hours having a meal together, laughing and chatting. Just two girls hanging out at a happy hour. My date never showed up and it was perfectly ok, because I knew I had much more fun meeting Lorin! By the amount of chatting and laughing, you would have thought we had been friends for years! We met up a couple of times after that day, but eventually lost touch.
I remember when this plane crash occurred. I had been on the same flight a few weeks earlier. I remember thinking that it could have been me and the circumstances related to this plane crash were horrifying. It is hard to believe that I actually knew someone on that plane. To Lorin's family and friends: Thank you for your effort to improve aviation safety and sharing your story with the American people. It is a good reminder that we can all make a difference in the world if we work together.

I just finished reading the article on Lorin and the plane tragedy that was published in Good Housekeeping. I actually had to steal it from my doctor's office because I couldn't bear to not hear the end of the story. My heart and prayers go out to your family. Each year that passes, I grow more concerned about airline travel and part of me now rests a little easier with the knowledge of your sacrifice to change the laws in the United States. God Bless you all - and believe me that you have brought a bit more beauty to my day from your story.

You made a lasting impression with Julie Murphy at the Newark Airport hours before you lost your life. Julie ran a 1/2 marathon on Thanksgiving Day in your honor. Thank you Julie for remembering Lorin in such a special way. With Love Always!

Did You Know?
Lorin's first car, a 1984 Chevy Celebrity station wagon, was affectionately named 'Big Red'. When Big Red was on it's last legs, Lorin wrote a story about her car for publication in the Reading Eagle newspaper.
